Additional Comments: This MOU with ALEA (SBI) places drug task force officers within the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force (ADETF). It provides our North Alabama Drug Task Force Officers (NADTF) with State Task Force Officer status, which gives us the jurisdictional authority to operate regionally on cases. Additionally, the MOU provides access to state grant funding (typically $20-25K annually) and allows us to utilize state-level investigative tools such as wiretaps. Because the agreement is between HPD and ALEA, a portion of state task force seizure proceeds is returned directly to HPD rather than the NADTF. This MOU is separate from the HIDTA structure and its executive committee.
